Jamie
February 2024
Jamie is four and lives in Scotland with his family.
Jamie’s Dad serves in the Royal Navy and regularly spends time away from home. In fact, in Jamie’s short life he has spent more than 12 months serving overseas. When his Dad is away, Jamie isn’t able to speak to him which he finds hard.
His Mum nominated him for the Little Trooper of the Month Award for being resilient and positive throughout the deployment. She comments: “This is the first time that Jamie has really understood why his Dad is away but he’s coped with it so well. He has been thriving at nursery and generally he’s growing up to be a really strong and resilient boy. We are so proud of him. Of course, he really misses his Daddy, but he doesn’t complain. He just enjoys counting off the days until he will be home again.”
Jamie will receive his very own medal from Little Troopers, along with a £50 gift voucher and certificate. Speaking about his award, Jamie said: “‘Thank you for my award. It made me feel so happy and I can’t wait to tell my Daddy when he comes home”
Louise Fetigan, founder of Little Troopers, adds: “Having a parent serving away from home overseas is one of the most difficult things about being a military child. The assumption is that families can keep in touch via phone and social media but that’s not always the case, We hope that Jamie’s medal shows him that we recognise he has made a sacrifice too and we think he is an amazing little trooper.”
