In Memory of Jake Swinscoe
March 2024
Jake Swinscoe (13) was awarded Little Trooper of the Month in spring 2024. He was nominated for the award by his mum Lynsey. Jake’s dad serves in the Royal Artillery.
“In August 2023 he was diagnosed with a rare childhood cancer called Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma and has since been receiving chemotherapy and proton beam therapy. Unfortunately we recently got the news that Jake’s cancer has spread and he cannot be cured. He is now receiving different chemotherapy to slow down to spread and to maintain his quality of life. Since Jake’s original diagnosis he has never complained about having to be admitted to hospital for treatment. Jake has always been so mature and has endured chemotherapy with a smile on his face and fierce determination, even when things have been extremely tough. I would like to nominate Jake for this award for his incredible bravery throughout his journey.”
We were extremely saddened to hear that Jake passed away on 26th April 2024.
Louise Fetigan, founder of Little Troopers, shares her thoughts:
It is so important to me that Jake’s bravery and his journey are recognised. He truly has shown what an amazing Little Trooper he is. Writing this has been one of the hardest things I have had to do in 13 years of Little Troopers, my heart goes out to all of Jake’s family and friends at this sad time.
Little Trooper of the Month is such an extremely special initiative highlighting military children who also have to face some of the hardest challenges in life on top of military life. Jake will forever sit in our Little Trooper of the Month gallery.
Sending so much love and strength to all of Jake’s family. Louise xxx
