Little Trooper of the Month – Darcie’s Story
Darcie entered the world on the very day the UK went into its third lockdown.
With so much time spent at home in those early months, she quickly became a daddy’s girl.
Not long after, the family moved even further from loved ones due to a military posting and soon after, Darcie faced another big challenge: her serving dad’s first deployment since her birth. She was too young to understand where he had gone, but with incredible spirit, she adapted. She made new friends, started nursery, and joined playgroups, embracing each change with a smile.
Since then, Darcie’s dad, who serves in the Royal Air Force, has deployed every 12 months, three long deployments in just three years, missing many special moments along the way. This current deployment has been the hardest yet. The family has moved once again with the forces, and this time he will miss her very first day of school. While Darcie is excited to start in September, she is also sad that her daddy won’t be there to share the moment.
Darcie said “ I miss my daddy a lot , I love my medal and my voucher”
Darcie’s mum, Briony, told us:
“Darcie’s resilience has been nothing short of inspiring. She has poured her energy into settling at a new posting, finishing preschool, and making new friends. I am endlessly proud of her. The past few years have not been easy, but she is blossoming into the most kind, caring, and beautiful little trooper. We are counting down the days until her dad returns, so we can celebrate a truly special family Christmas together this year.”
Louise Fetigan, founder of Little Troopers, added:
“Darcie shows what it truly means to be a Little Trooper. Many military moves and so many months of separation from her serving daddy in her short life, the strength she has shown encapsulates what military children overcome so regularly.”
Congratulations, Darcie! you are a shining example of courage, adaptability, and love.
