Making wishes come true – Little Troopers at LaplandUK!

13 families were chosen from hundreds of entrants to join Little Troopers for a day out of a lifetime at LaplandUKin Ascot. Ten families that have a serving parent away for Christmas enjoyed a magical day, helping the elves, baking with Mrs Christmas, ice-skating and most importantly meeting Father Christmas himself.

Three other families were also given a ginormous extra surprise when Father Christmas gave them a gift of their parent! It was an emotional moment for everyone when Daddy entered the cabin to give his children long awaited hugs and kisses. There were tears across the country as the Nation watched the the reunions on ITV’s This Morning.Military separations are difficult for the whole family and it’s so special to be able to make these home-comings even more memorable.

The Trimmer family have been separated for several months with minimum contact, Mum Emma Trimmer said “It’s been an amazing day, thank you so much for fantastic memories that we will treasure forever. Merry Xmas little troopers, love from the Trimmer’s xxxxxxxx”

Dad Mike Maguire bought his sons Joe and Fin along for the day after Mum Sergeant Michelle Maguire applied for the tickets. This is Michelle’s second Christmas away in a row. The boys managed to FaceTime their Mum when they were on the Ice rink in the LaplandUK village and she said “Thanks Little Troopers, my kids are having a blast today”.

This amazing day is part of the Little Troopers Christmas Smiles campaign where thanks to lots of companies we can spread festive cheer to those separated over Christmas. There will now be lots of excited phone calls or letters being sent to the deployed parent telling them all about their day.

Louise Fetigan who founded the charity Little Troopers and is an ex-soldier herself says of the scheme “We are so grateful to all who donate tickets to our Christmas Smiles initiative, it is so special to be able to sprinkle some smiles over what can be a difficult time for military families when they have someone serving overseas. While the reunions were amazing at LaplandUK yesterday it is important to remember that thousands of our Armed Forces are away at this time of year. Little Troopers wants the families to know that we are here to support them.”

If you would like to support us further we have a fantastic 2019 calendar for sale on our website, it is full of heart-warming images from inside the world of a military family. It is only £9.99, please visit www.littletroopers.net to buy.
