Looking back at the Month of the Military Child

This weekend marks the end of the Month of the Military Child 2022. During the month of April, we love to take time to celebrate all of the little troopers out there! The events and activities that we organised helped over 800 families and 175 schools.

We kicked off the month with an interview with our new Ambassador Thom Smith, followed by a rugby match and several online events – it has been busy! We also uploaded a selection of resources for parents and schools, which have been downloaded 1,000 times. Our community loved the Dandelion poem and there was a lot of baking going on as our Dandelion biscuit recipe was downloaded 60 times.

Louise, founder of the charity, comments “We love to make our little troopers feel special all year round, but this month gives us a chance to really celebrate them. It has been so lovely to see some of them enjoying the activities. We know that military children love to meet others and we were so grateful to Thom for inviting 10 families to join him at one of his rugby matches.”

This year we also put together a special Month of the Military Child schools pack which has been downloaded 175 times. It was so lovely to see schools such as Gateway Primary school, Rosemellin Primary school and St Mary’s Primary get involved. They have been taking part in an online workshop, organising a military children artwork competition and wear purple to school for the day. Gateway school also held a cake sale and raffle which raised £230. One of the cakes was an amazing military hat that came complete with its very own Little Troopers dog tag!

Louise adds, “Even though the Month of the Military child is ending we have lots of resources on our website to help families and make their children feel special. We have also recently added some Platinum Jubilee crafts, so take a look around the site.”
