Little Troopers has put its hugely popular schools workshops online. In June over 3,400 little troopers from 200 schools took part in the charity’s virtual Roadshow. For those schools who couldn’t take part they can now watch the videos and download the accompanying documents.
The workshops, which were funded by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund, celebrated what it means to be a ‘Little Trooper’ and showcased some of the key schools resources that the charity has developed. On our website you will find a two-hour video of those workshops, they include storytelling, imaginative play, movement and drama. The download includes activity sheets that the children can use to learn tools that could help them navigate some of the challenges they might face either now or in the future. The workshop was facilitated by two entertainers and when they were run in June there were smiles and laughter throughout.
Louise, Founder of the Charity said, “The response that we had to the workshops was phenomenal. Teachers and pupils gave us such positive feedback. Sharing these online creates a resource that schools can download and use in their own time.”
There are three videos, on this web page, one for each military service. The workshop is divided up into different sessions so schools can pause the videos as needed. The content could then be used over several days or in a little troopers club.
One school told us, “The roadshow was of great benefit to our service children as they were able to talk about their experience of service life and the feelings that go with this. None of the children had heard of Little Troopers before so the roadshow educated them on the support that they could get when dad goes away or when they are moving home. For me Little Troopers has given me the opportunity to support our young service children in a very practical way. We will continue with a termly meet up to share our views and feelings.”
Before Christmas Little Troopers will be working with the Welsh Local Government Association, as part of the Supporting Service Children in Education (SSCE) Cymru programme, to take the Roadshow to Wales. More information will follow soon.
