It’s World Mental Health Day and we want to help you in supporting your little troopers mental health. Being a little trooper isn’t always easy. We’re going to be making an announcement about our Therapy programme soon. In the meantime, we want to make sure you know about the resources we have that can help you now.
Louise, Founder of our charity said: “We care for our children all year round, but being mindful of their mental health, it is always a good idea to check in. It can be really hard to get our little ones to talk about how they feel. We have put together several resources to help start the conversation and boost their mood if they’re a little down.”
Online resources
X-ray of feelings – If your children are struggling emotionally and you are not sure how to help them? Have a look at our X-Ray of feelings collection. Six beautiful illustrated pictures uncover some of the thoughts and feelings your children might be experiencing when facing some military life situations. Many families have found them a great visual aid to help their children talk.
Little Troopers Therapy videos – Our parent video series is freely available to all military families. In each of the three videos, therapists cover information, practical advice and activity ideas. Each video has downloadable activities that families are encouraged to print-out and complete together at home. The videos cover, having a parent away, moving home and school, and nurturing resilience as a military child.
Affirmation cards – Affirmations are short phrases or words that we can repeat to ourselves. We’ve put together a downloadable pack of beautifully illustrated cards that you can use throughout the day. They can help lift your mood or put you in a more positive frame of mind. If deployment is proving tough you could tuck one into your child’s school or lunch bag.
Looking after you
Louise, added, “We also cannot forget about protecting your mental health. Military life is not easy. Time at home single parenting is hard! We want to help you get five minutes peace. Our tip is print out a Crafty Little trooper activity sheet for your children, make a cuppa and breathe.”
Crafty Little Troopers – There are some fantastic Halloween crafts and some more peaceful mindfulness colouring sheets. There are over 50 other activity sheets on the website.
