Facing a summer move – we’re here to help!

At Little Troopers we know that lots of families are facing a summer move and we wanted you to know that we’re here to help. If you’re packing up this summer, we have lots of free resources to help your children navigate these life transitions.

Louise, our charity founder, said, “moving can disrupt a child’s sense of security. So, we have put together resources that provide them with structured, playful ways to express their feelings. We want to help turn a stressful relocation into a shared family adventure.”

Whether you’re looking for help with moving home, moving school or both, we have lots of ways to support you:

Practical tips
  • You will find some great moving labels in our Crafty Little Troopers They are easy to print out and great for the kids to colour in while you are trying to pack everything!
  • Take a look at our handy moving school checklist. All the questions you need the answers for, in one place.
  • Fill out our Transition chit to give to your child’s new teacher to help them in the first few days.
Emotional support
  • Moving home and school can be tough on our little troopers, so in our Therapy section, you will find videos to watch with your family. They explore how they may be feeling about moving home/ school and suggest some ways of coping with the change.
  • Our x-ray of feelings pictures specifically for moving home and moving school can help younger kids identify confusing emotions. There is also an activity sheet that has been created by an educational psychologist to help you.
Staying in touch

Leaving friends can be especially hard, so we created our Little Troopers Letters pack to help treasure special friendships. Writing letters is so much fun and everyone loves to receive something in the post! If you are moving in the next four – six weeks you can apply for a pack for your military child. Each pack includes a writing set for your child and a second identical set for their best friend.

Louise adds, “We hope that some or all of the resources here can help make the move easier. Just remember to be kind to yourself and try to have a break or a quiet cuppa at some point.”
