Will you join our charity founder Louise for a ‘Rave Run’? Louise will be joining her sister-in-Law, Nichola for a ‘Rave Run’ on the 12th June 2024. Nichola has planned the ‘Rave Run’ in memory of her husband, and Louise’ brother, Mark to celebrate his life. You can join Louise and Nichola in person at the Shoulder of Mutton in Bury, or virtually.
Mark was an avid runner and would often go up onto the moor, plugged into his music. He’d call them his ‘rave runs’. During his six-month battle with cancer Mark started planning a Christmas DJ set for his family and friends, but was too poorly. Mark’s wife, Nichola, found the playlist and she thought that they could replicate his ‘rave runs’. The ‘Rave Run’ will raise money for five charities. These were all close to Mark’s heart and also helped Mark & the family during his battle.
‘Rave Run’ route
Everyone is welcome to take part in either the 7.5K fell run or a 3K fell walk, both starting from Shoulder of Mutton in Bury. The routes head up on to the moors where Mark loved to explore. Each route takes in some of his favourite spots. The Millennium Bench or the bench of contemplation as he called it, Interstellar sheep track, Harques Quarry and Peel Tower.
Or take part with a virtual challenge
There is also the option to sign-up virtually so anyone from across the country can join in! Mark’s playlist will be released to everyone taking part just before the event.
Nichola, Mark’s wife, comments: “Mark was an adventurous, creative and extraordinary person who was always coming up with fun ideas. He took a great amount of pleasure selecting the playlist, it seemed wrong for it not to be heard. I’m not going to give away any of the artists on the playlist, Mark had an eclectic taste in music. There are some huge dance tunes on there, which should, hopefully, keep people raving throughout the route and finish with a beaming smile as he would after his ‘rave runs’. Mark would want nothing more than this to be an uplifting event that raises crucial funds for the chosen charities.”
Louise added, “Mark was one of my biggest champions for Little Troopers and gave me incredible advice and support with many of our projects. I miss him desperately. This is a lovely way of him being able to support us, even when he is not here. I would be so happy if our community can support us through the ‘Rave Run’!”
Charity support
The five charities being supported by the ‘Rave Run’ are;
- Our Charity– A charity supporting children who have a parent in British Armed Forces, which was set up by Mark’s sister, Louise.
- The Christie– the Manchester hospital where Mark went for treatment.
- Macmillan Cancer Support – who supported Mark, and also supported Nichola in 2015 during her own battle with cancer.
- Rossendale & Pendle Mountain Rescue– Mark spent many years volunteering for the mountain rescue service.
- Maggie’s– the Manchester-based cancer support centre.
