A joyous Celebration marks the start of Fundraise February

On the 8th February 2020 Karen Shelmerdine and Mark Marsh will be saying I do and they have chosen to place Little Troopers at the centre of the proceedings. At their wedding, which takes place at the beginning of Fundraise February, they wanted to highlight the important work that we do for military families across the UK.

The couple met in 2007 and led very different lives until they met again in 2014. Mark said “We knew there was something special between us and decided to start a relationship in 2015.  We are now a family of 5 with children ranging from 3 years old to 12, who all process things in different ways.”

Mark adds “During the time we have been together I have spent much of my time away from Karen and our growing family. In 2018 we decided to get married, to make our family one and our lives together complete. I deployed to Afghanistan in 2019 and Karen approached Little Troopers for the deployment packs that help show and explain where I was and how long I would be away.  This gave the children a focus and understanding that has been phenomenal, and I don’t think we would have been able to give them that clear understanding without your help.”

Karen said “We decided that as our lives have allowed us gain most of the things we want out of life, we decided that rather than creating a wedding gift list, we wanted our guests to donate to Little Troopers instead.  We feel the Charity doesn’t get the coverage some of the other military charities get and wanted to do a little something to help.”

“The work that you do in support of those who are separated by Operations, long term exercises and unaccompanied postings is invaluable to the families you support.  This was our way of saying thank you and giving a little something back to charity that is doing amazing work” Karen added.

Louise Founder of the Charity said “We are so honoured that Karen and Mark have chosen to involve us in their wedding in this special way, during Fundraise February. It is so thoughtful and we are not only grateful for their wish to help us raise funds but also helping us raise awareness of the work we do.”

There is still time to get involved in Fundraise February and arrange your own event. Everything you need to start planning can be found on our website.
