Our first family reconnection weekend was a great success. At the beginning of May eight military families spent the weekend at the Portland Outdoor Centre in Dorset. The action-packed reconnection weekends aim to keep the bond between parent and little trooper strong, despite spending long periods of time apart.
Louise, Founder of our charity, said: “Our new family reconnection weekends are aimed at families before, during or after a period of separation. Our Dorset weekend went brilliantly. It was so lovely to see families getting stuck in with the activities, laughing and enjoying some special time together.”
The first weekend in Portland kicked off with a beautiful sunset on the beach and drinking hot chocolate. Over the next two days families got to try out coasteering, canoeing, rafting and stand-up paddleboarding. There was also a spot of survival techniques; learning coastal bushcraft and cooking fish on the fire,
The weekend in Portland was the first of four fully funded family reconnection weekends. The weekends, which are part of our All-Together programme have been made possible thanks to support from Team Forces and Civica
The weekends are open to military families with up to four siblings aged 9 and over. They are perfect for those looking for an exciting few days of outdoor adventure and connection. Everyone is encouraged to put down their phones, meet new people and make memories. Each weekend runs from Friday to Sunday at no cost to the families.
