Six weeks is up! As the children head to school, we want to shout about our Little Troopers at School project. We have lots of resources to help you, your family and teachers.
Louise, Founder of our charity, said, “thousands of little troopers will be starting a new school. After the upheaval of a summer move and leaving friends, they may be feeling nervous. We wanted to take a minute to point you to sections within our website to help you settle their nerves.”
For Parents
There is lots you can do to help your child and school, here are a few resources to help:
- We have a video about moving home and school in our online therapy resources. It’s perfect for parents who would like more information and activity ideas to better support your child at home.
- Take a look at our handy moving school checklist. All the questions you need the answers for, in one place.
- Ensure that your new school knows about our Little Trooper at School project.
- We also have an x-ray of feelings picture about starting a new school. Use the activity sheet to talk through your child’s feelings about their new school.
- Our Transition chit can be completed and given to your child’s new teacher to help them in the first few days. There is also a Separation chit, which could be helpful if a parent is facing a long period away from home.
- There are more schools resources in our Parent School information sheets section, just click here.
For Teachers
Our Little Troopers at School website is divided into Primary and Secondary sections to make navigation easier. On there you will find:
Primary School
- Primary Resource Pack – This pack has been planned, created and illustrated to explain more about military children within schools. It gives you lots of practical ways to support and ensure the military are represented in your education setting. There is a comprehensive information booklet, stories, circle time plans, lesson plans, resources for display boards and role play activities.
- Forces Life Club – We will have some exciting news about our Forces Life Club program this Autumn. Make sure you are signed up for our schools newsletter, so you can find out about our plans.
- Virtual workshops for primary school children – Over the last few years we have supported thousands of military children through two online workshops. The workshops use some of the Little Troopers at Schools resources to bring together military children and their teachers. Both workshops, along with the resources for teachers to download, are online now. Workshop one focuses of what it is to be a little trooper. The second is themed around wellbeing and mindfulness.
Secondary School
- Secondary School Resource Hub – A toolbox of free school resources available for you to browse, download and utilise. You can find Lesson plans, activity templates and other resources, including our SQUAD podcast series. The hub is packed with practical ideas to get you talking about military life in your setting.
Primary and Secondary Schools
- Wellbeing courses – We have developed two resource packs one for primary schools and a secondary school version. Everything you need is ready to access now; teachers notes, course materials and worksheets for the children. You can access the Primary school wellbeing course The Secondary school course is here.
Louise adds, “Our Little Troopers at School project is there to save parents and teachers time. Our ultimate goal is that our little troopers have the same level of support, regardless of where they live or go to school.”
