Armed Forces Day is on the 27th June and our Dandelion Workshop is perfect for helping children celebrate at school. This special day gives us the opportunity to shine a light on children who’re part of the Armed Forces community.
Louise, founder of our charity, said, “We know how busy teachers are, so we have a couple of ready to go resources to help you celebrate Armed Forces Day at school. The first is our two-hour dandelion workshop. This is delivered as an “as-live” session and celebrates what it means to be a dandelion. The second is a dedicated resource pack themed around Armed Forces Day and what it means to be a little trooper.”
Dandelion workshop
The Dandelion is the flower of a military child and there is a poem that is poignant in its description of their lives. The Dandelion workshop is presented by well-known TV broadcasters Evie Pickerill and Ben Cajee. It will engage children through games, drawing and fun activities.
Everything you need for the workshop can be found online. It covers topics such as Being a Military Child, Friendship and Mindfulness, with a dandelion theme woven throughout. Make sure you download the PDF which includes facilitator notes, certificate and all the activity sheets you’ll need.
Celebrating Armed Forces Day at School
If you do not have time to run the workshop or would like something in addition, you can download our dedicated resource pack. In the pack you will find assembly planners for both Primary and Secondary Schools. along with a copy of the Dandelion Poem.
The pack also includes some activity sheets that could be printed. These include both colouring in and a word search activity. At the end of the pack, you will find a certificate to print for the little troopers in your school.
Louise adds, “It’s really important to look after and celebrate our little troopers. Armed Forces Day is just a couple of weeks away. Please make sure that your child’s school knows about Little Troopers and be sure to pass on this link.”
