Month of the Military Child – we’re ready!

April is the international Month of the Military Child and we want military families and schools to help us celebrate!

Visit our website and download our fun activities, which are perfect for military children of all ages. Our resources will help reflect on how special it is to grow up in the British Armed Forces community. The activities are dandelion-themed, the official flower of the military child because it is strong and resilient and blooms anywhere the wind carries it.

Louise, founder of our charity comments: “April the Month of the Military Child is our favourite time of year. It’s a chance for us all to reflect on all the amazing little troopers out there. We hope that lots of schools and families take time in April to tell military children how special they are.  Hopefully our activities will help children feel part of our growing Little Troopers community.”

At Home

Families can get involved in dandelion-themed art, recipes, colouring-in sheets and dandelion playdough. As a special gift, we are giving away a free seeded postcard featuring the Dandelion poem. There will also be social media giveaways throughout the month.

As part of our All-Together project we’ve organised three free live online events during the month. The workshops are perfect for younger little troopers (under 10yrs old). Places for each event are limited, so families are encouraged to book early:

4th April: Rainforest Discovery with ZooLab – Go on a journey through the rainforest – with real rainforest animals and a presenter who knows the rainforest inside out!

8th April: Creative art base – Join ArtBase for a fun, relaxed drawing class. All you will need is a pencil, a rubber and some paper!

22nd April: Bake-a-long with Cookstars – Join Cook Stars for this online bake along where you’ll be making hot cross buns.

At School

For schools we have created a special Military Child pack with activities suitable for both primary and secondary pupils. Take part in a dandelion craft project, complete the superheroes workshop or do some mindful colouring-in. Older children can organise their own assembly all about military life and the Month of the Military Child.

The next edition of the Little Troopers Gazette will also launch in April. The free newspaper is packed with stories written by military children along with news, fun facts and other activities. Families and schools can order their free copies here from the 1st April 2023.
