Little Troopers launches school resource pack

Little Troopers is today launching a brand new resource pack for Primary Schools to help them talk about the military in class and provide support for our Little Troopers. Moving home, schools and experiencing long periods of separation from a serving parent, can be a regular occurrence for those children whose parents serve in the British Armed Forces.

In a recent survey the charity Little Troopers, found that families had moved an average of six times during childhood and 95% of those children attended local state school for their education. Louise Fetigan, Founder and Operations Manager for Little Troopers said; “I am so excited to be launching this pack. It is a unique resource, carefully planned, created and illustrated by us for schools. Recently we have heard that forces families and education settings need support with moving schools.”

The survey showed that the biggest issues with moving schools are changes between the educations systems in different countries and counties, catching up with the curriculum in each school and struggling to make new friends.

The Primary School resource pack will also help schools understand the challenges of being in military family, the emotions behind deployment and resources to ease transition between schools. It includes over 30 resources with some of the templates loaded onto a USB to be reproduced and utilised. Here is a pack outline:

  • Information and forms for transition
  • Suggestions for how to utilise the Service Pupil Premium
  • Lesson plans, circle time scenarios and role play plans
  • Activity Sheets
  • Short story from published author Tom Palmer
  • Everything you need to create a ‘Little Trooper’ board; stickers, A1 Maps & fact file cards

Louise Fetigan, Founder and Operations Manager at Little Troopers said “My daughter has had five different schools in the last five years due to our military movements and I have seen first hand how hard this can be. Little Troopers at School is a new project to empower parents and help schools to ensure service children are supported as best they can be in education settings”

The Primary School resource packs can be purchased from www.littletroopers.net for £59.99. There is a £10 discount for the first 50 packs purchased, please use the code LTS10 at the checkout.
