Recommended Reads for little troopers

Finding books for military children can be difficult. The challenges that our little troopers face, through this unique life we live, can make it hard to find stories that they can relate too. Little Troopers has done some of the work for you by finding 17 story books that cover lots of subjects that can help your family.

Louise, founder of the charity, said: “No matter how old your children are, Mummy or Daddy being away from home, moving house every two years or settling into a new school can be overwhelming. Storytime is such a special time and the books in our recommended reads can be used to provide comfort and a chance to talk to children about how they feel.”

Little Troopers often hears from military families that the challenges that they face are not talked about enough in children’s literature. The books we have found cover moving home, saying goodbye, missing those we love when we’re apart and happy homecomings.

The recommended reads list also includes the six books that have been created by our charity. The Little Troopers storybook series have been written by children’s author Donna David. The Stories feature military children as the protagonists and there are two stories for each service – the Royal Navy, British Army and RAF. Each story brings to life some of the experiences and emotions that service children face.
