Our Tri-service children’s book series is complete

Little Troopers has recently launched the final two children’s books in its tri-service story series. ‘My Navy Life’ and ‘My RAF Life’ will join ‘My Army Life’ to complete the second series of printed children’s books from the charity.

Each book brings to life the story of a military child whose parent has been deployed overseas and is told through their eyes in the form of diary entries. Aimed at children over five years old, the books explore the highs and lows of having a parent serving away from home and are designed to help military children talk about their own experiences.

The books have been written by children’s picture book author and military spouse, Donna David, who has now penned six books for the charity. Donna comments: “I have really enjoyed writing these books for Little Troopers. As a military spouse and parent, I know how challenging it can be for children to have a parent deployed overseas and there are very few children’s books written about this. I hope these books will help military families to read and talk about what it means to be in a military family and to show forces children that there are lots of other children going through similar experiences.”

The ‘My Life’ storybooks join the ‘Dear Mum/ Dad’ series so there is now a book for each of the services from the perspective of both Mum and Dad. Military families, Schools and Libraries can buy any of the six books either individually for £3.50 or as part of a set from the Little Troopers online shop.

Louise, founder of Little Troopers, adds: “Since launching Little Troopers, military children have continued to be underrepresented in children’s literature, so creating our own storybooks has been a real passion project of mine. We have been so lucky to have the fabulously talented Donna David working on these books and My RAF Life and My Navy Life are the perfect addition to the latest series. We hope that lots of military children get to read and enjoy these stories and we’d love to see the collections in school libraries and homes across the country.”

The charity has lots of initiatives for military families including a free story recording app called Little Troopers Treasures. The app enables military children to watch their serving parent read a story alongside the animated illustrations from the original book. To find out more click here.
