Little Trooper of the Month

Arran Dawson

July 2022

Arran Dawson has been named ‘Little Trooper of the Month’ for being resilient and coping with some of the unique challenges that military life can bring.

Arran’s Dad has just been deployed overseas for six months and won’t be home until just before Christmas. He will miss Arran’s birthday. The deployment comes not long after the family moved to Inverness in May and Arran had to start a new school. While many military families move home regularly, this move was particularly difficult for the family as it happened just three weeks after Arran unexpectedly lost his Grandma to cancer at Easter.

Arran was nominated for Little Trooper of the Month by his Mum, Shannon, who explains: “The last few months have been very overwhelming for Arran so I nominated him for the Little Troopers award because I want him to know that we are so proud of him and we think he deserves a medal for everything he has been through.”

Speaking of his award win, Arran says: “I didn’t know my Mum nominated me, I am so happy that I have won the Little Troopers Award. Being a military child isn’t always easy but I’m really proud to have my own medal to show for it – just like my Dad.”

As ‘Little Trooper of the Month’, Arran will receive a Little Troopers medal, certificate and a £50 voucher.

Louise Fetigan, founder of Little Troopers, said: “The Little Trooper of the Month award scheme is all about recognising military children who have been through a difficult time and have had to be especially brave or resilient. In the last six months Arran has had to cope with three of the biggest challenges facing military children – deployment, moving home and moving school – and to go through all of these just after losing his Grandma must have been especially difficult. We hope that this award helps Arran to feel proud of everything he has been through and shows him that we all think he is a special little trooper.”
